Meta Declines to Sign EU’s AI Code of Practice
Meta has officially declined to sign the European Union’s voluntary Code of Practice for General-Purpose AI (GPAI), just weeks ahead of the implementation of AI Act. The Code of Practice aims to guide companies in aligning with the AI Act, requiring transparency in model documentation, respecting content rights, and banning the use of pirated data.
Meta’s chief global affairs officer calls the implementation of the legislation "overreach", arguing that it could hinder the development and deployment of advanced AI models in Europe and limit opportunities for European companies seeking to build businesses around these technologies.
SOMI is actively pursuing legal action against Meta in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany to ensure that the rights of consumers and data subjects are respected across Europe. These cases are part of our broader mission to challenge the power of Big Tech and defend the rights of individuals in the digital age.
