Social media platform X is facing a collective damages action in The Netherlands over alleged data breaches, unlawful ad targeting and failures to tackle hate speech, after an Amsterdam court cleared the case to proceed, a consumer rights foundation said on Thursday.

Rotterdam (Netherlands), October 22th, 2026 – The District Court of Amsterdam has declared that the collective proceedings initiated by Stichting Onderzoek Marktinformatie (SOMI) against X (formerly Twitter) may proceed. SOMI meets all legal requirements to initiate collective damages proceedings and is appointed SOMI as the Exclusive Representative in the case. The case will now proceed on the merits.

Rotterdam (The Netherlands) and Berlin (Germany) – September 16th, 2026 – The Dutch non-profit foundation Stichting Onderzoek Marktinformatie (SOMI) has issued a formal warning in Germany to Snap – the company behind Snapchat, over concerns about child safety and the platform's addictive design. In parallel, SOMI has filed a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority concerning the same practices and expanded its collective proceedings in the Netherlands to represent victims from across the European Union on an opt-in basis.
