SOMI states that TikTok collects data from children in order to offer them targeted advertisements. However, the platform would not have properly requested permission for this. SOMI also claims that TikTok collects more information than necessary. The privacy of children on TikTok is not sufficiently guaranteed.

The foundation has gone to court in Amsterdam. SOMI wants compensation of 500 to 2,000 euros per child, depending on their age. The total amount demanded, therefore, rises to more than one billion euros.
